A man believed to be in his 30’s is in a critical condition after his Toyota collided with a tree on the Weilbach Road (R551) near Meyerton this afternoon.
Bystanders explained that within minutes after the collision the Midvaal Fire Department arrived on the scene and noticed that the man was still trapped in his vehicle. He had multiple injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle as soon as possible. ER24 paramedics that arrived on the scene assisted the fire department with the medical treatment. The vehicle was extremely mangled with the engine lying several meters away from the scene.
The man sustained multiple injuries, including a suspected head injury as well as chest injuries. Paramedics called in the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to airlift the man through to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further medical care.
The exact cause of this incident is not yet known. Bystanders on the scene explained to paramedics that it appeared as if the driver lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a tree.
