At approximately 03H30 this morning, paramedics from ER24 responded to a collision on the M1 Higginson Highway in the vicinity of the Chatsglen off ramp.
Upon arrival they found that a light motor vehicle seemed to have lost control and collided with the Armco barrier, causing the car to be catapulted into the air slamming into a bridge support. The vehicle was hanging dangerously over the bridge and the road below.
Two patients were ejected on impact and transported to a nearby facility by ER24 and provincial services.
Unfortunately the driver died on impact and the fire department had a lengthy extrication of the driver with the use of a crane.
The road was closed for over two hours.
