Seven injured as bakkie rolls in Ashburton

Paramedics at the scene of an accident on the N3 near the Lynnfield Park off ramp in Ashburton treated seven patients for their various injuries after a bakkie rolled.

The single cab bakkie’s driver lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason, causing the vehicle to roll, coming to rest on the driver’s side up against the roadside embankment. The bakkie did not have a canopy, and it is believed that the occupants who had been seated on the aback of the bakkie had been ejected.

Patient were found lying around the scene; three patients had sustained minor injuries, three moderate injuries and then a man in his 30’s had sustained critical injuries and needed Advanced Life Support treatment. He was placed on life saving equipment and paramedics stabilised his condition at the scene.

All of the patients were treated accordingly before being taken to hospitals in the surrounding area by various the various ambulance services who attended the accident.

There had been no other vehicles involved in the accident and the cause of the accident is not yet know.
