Three seriously injured in Benoni accident

A Toyota hatchback and a BMW sedan collided at the corners of Denel and Atlas road in Atlasville Benoni, where the Toyota was extensively damaged in the front and the BMW in the front, left side and back.

The two woman in the Toyota were left severely entrapped in the vehicle due to the extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. The entire front of the car was push in and the dashboard was crumpled inside the vehicle. The woman driver and passenger had suffered extensive injuries and they were treated by the Advanced Life Support paramedics at the scene.

The local Fire and Rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to cut the car open in order to get the patients out.

The driver had suffered a severe head injury and the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in to airlift her to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for further care. The passenger had sustained multiple broken bones and other serious injuries and she was taken per ambulance to Tambo Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the BMW was also in a serious condition, but he was stable and taken to Aarwyp Hospital for further care.

The cause of the accident will need to be investigated.
