Truck driver killed in crash on the N1 south between Lynwood and Atterbury


[PRETORIA – 28 MARCH 2012 AT 19H10]

A collision in the early parts of Wednesday evening on the N1 south between Lynwood and Atterbury involving three articulated trucks, has left one person dead, and two other drivers with serious injuries.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found three trucks involved in a collision, with one truck lying on its side and another up against the wire safety rail next to the freeway. One truck driver was found inside his cabin of his vehicle with extensive damage. Unfortunately the driver had sustained fatal injuries and had succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The second driver of the over turned truck was in a serious condition and was entrapped. The Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment were used to extricate the man from the vehicle while Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient. The other driver was treated for suspected neck and back injuries and a broken leg. Both patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The circumstances around the accident are still yet not clear but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further. The freeway was closed while emergency personnel were busy on the scene.
