Two adults and four children injured in crash as car rolls near Kuilsriver

[Kuilsriver 4 March 2012 14:30]

The vehicle that the family were traveling in suddenly veered from the road and rolled down a short embankment landing on its roof up against a fence off Faure Street near the R102.

In the vehicle had been two men, three girls aged six, seven and 10, and a four year old boy. The two adult men are believed to be the children’s uncles.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, all of the patients were found outside the vehicle. Some of them had been ejected as the vehicle rolled, while the others were removed by bystanders who had come across the incident before paramedics arrived.

The two men and two of the girls (six and 10 year old) were treated for various injuries by the Department of Health: Provincial Services EMS paramedics for their injuries. ER24 paramedics from the Stand base treated the seven year old girl and four year old boy. While they were strapping the little boy to spinal immobilisation equipment, his condition started to deteriorate and paramedics quickly made the decision to call in the Medicopter. The ER24 Discovery Medicopter, with Doctor on board, landed at the scene and took over the little boy’s treatment, further stabilising him before he was airlifted to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.

The other patients were taken per ambulance to hospitals in the surrounding area.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by police.
