2 Die and 2 others injured in M1 Buccleuch collision

Two people have died and two others have sustained various injuries following a serious collision on the M1 highway in Baccleuch.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but a Fiat Palio had allegedly veered out of control coming around a bend, before colliding with a steamroller construction vehicle. There were four occupants in the vehicle at the time of the collision, all males believed to be aged in their early 20’s.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found that two of the men in the vehicle had sustained various fatal injuries. Both men were later declared dead at the scene. One of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle at the moment of impact. The patient received treatment at the scene for suspected back and neck injuries as well as a chest injury. The man was rapidly transported from the scene by another ambulance service.

The remaining patient was entrapped in the vehicle as bent steel and rubber pinned the gentleman in the wrecked vehicle. The local fire and rescue services extricated the man from the vehicle. Paramedics then treated the patient for suspected back, neck and abdominal injuries before transporting him to a nearby medical facility.
