Car Lands In Stream near Pinetown, Leaves Two Injured

[PINETOWN – 29 APRIL 2012 AT 05H00]

A driver and his passenger have sustained moderate injuries this morning after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control while coming down Underwood Road heading towards Pinetown and went off the road and landed on its roof in the river below.

ER24 were called to the scene and found the vehicle on its roof with the passenger standing outside of the vehicle and the driver still inside. The passenger was treated first. She had a suspected neck and back injury and had to be placed on a specialised board to get her up the embankment into the waiting ambulance. The Fire Department set up flood lights on the road side so paramedics could see what they were dealing with down below. The Jaws of Life was used to help open the door more as the driver was mechanically entrapped.

Once the access to the driver was gained, the paramedics were able to assess him better. Lucky enough he was only complaining of pain to the lower back and hip region. The paramedics placed him on a specialised board and with the help of the Firemen they were able to carry him out. He was taken to Hillcrest Private Hospital for further medical care.

The circumstances around the accident will be investigated by the local authorities.
