18 April 2012 – Eleven People Involved in Rollover Collision
[VEREENIGING] – Nine people were thrown from a Nissan 1400 bakkie when it overturned several times on the R59 between Verwoerd and Redan off ramps. At approximately 10:00 this morning paramedics from ER24 attended the incident on the R59 towards Vereeniging.
Paramedics that arrived on the scene found eleven people that were involved in this incident. It is understood that nine of the people were in the back of the bakkie when it overturned. They were thrown from the vehicle when it overturned onto the middle island of the R59. It is believed that the driver and his passenger climbed out of the vehicle.
All of the patients were assessed on the scene and five of them sustained moderate injuries, including possible head injuries. They were transported per ambulance to the Sebokeng Provincial Hospital. Six of the occupants were assessed on the scene but they declined hospital treatment.
The occupants explained to paramedics that they were en route from Thokoza to Vereeniging when the incident occurred.
The exact cause of this incident is not yet known. It is not clear if a second vehicle was involved.
