Fatal N3 truck in Pietermaritzburg

[Pietermaritzburg 06 April 2012 13:00]

Paramedics struggled to get through the heavy traffic backlog on the N3 south after the Peter Brown road off ramp, after a large truck with a container overturned and blocked most of the free way.

The truck driver, who had been ejected after it is believed the truck crashed into the left roadside embankment, was found up on the embankment, and he was in a critical condition. Paramedics had to initiate CPR efforts on the man, but there was nothing more that they could do for him and there was no change in his condition. A while later, the man in his 40’s was declared deceased.

The truck was extensively damaged, with the cabin ripped to pieces, lying on the side of the road with the load bed of the truck blocking the lanes. There had been no one else in the truck at the time and no other vehicles involved in the accident.
