Four people sustained serious injuries this evening following a three truck pileup on the R24 between the Edenvale and Barberra off ramps.

The cuse of the collision is unclear at this stage, but it seems as if two of the trucks had came to a standstill on the highway. A third vehicle then collided with the rear of the middle truck squishing it between the two trucks. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the collision was severe judging by the amount of damage sustained to the trucks.

The middle truck had three occupants and all three men were entrapped in the vehicle as bent steel and rubber had pinned them in the truck. Rescue personell used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the vehicle in order to free the occupants.

Once freed from the wreck the men recieved Advanced Life Support treatment at the scene for crushing injuries ranging from broken legs, abdominal injuries, suspected back, neck and pelvic injuries. The driver of the rear truck also sustained injuries in the form of suspected back and neck injuries.

All of the patients were later transported from the scene by ER24 and another ambulance service. Traffic on the R24 was affected while rescue personell attended the scene. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
