[VAN DER HOFF PARK] – A man believed to be in his late 50’s sustained serious injuries when he was knocked off his bicycle earlier this afternoon.

Paramedics that arrived on the scene at Mozart and Rochini Roads in Van Der Hoff Park found the man on the side of the road a few metres away from his crumpled bicycle. He sustained multiple injuries and was stabilised on the scene before he was rushed off to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for specialist treatment.

Paramedics also found two occupants inside of the vehicle. The female passenger in the vehicle was treated on the scene before she was taken by Provincial Services to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for further treatment. The driver of the vehicle was assessed on the scene but declined to receive hospital treatment.

The exact cause of this incident is not known. Bystanders explained that the man on his bicycle was on his way home from work when the car and bicycle collided. Paramedics indicated that he is lucky to be alive judging by the damage on the vehicle and his bicycle. It appears that the man fell through the windscreen of the car before he landed on the side of the road.
