A head on collision between two vehicles happened on the N12 near the Daveyton/Etwatwa off ramp in the early hours of this morning.
The events leading up to the accident, and the subsequent cause of the accident is not yet known.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene immediately had to initiate life saving treatment, as two women and a 9 month old baby girl had suffered critical injuries in the crash. Paramedics treated them for multiple other injuries and placed all three patients onto external breathing equipment. The two women were further stabilised en rout to Pholosong Hospital in Duduza where they will receive further emergency care.
The baby girl was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further life saving treatment.
There had been two other people injured in the accident, but fortunately they were alert and stable on scene. They were treated for moderate to minor injuries and taken per ambulance to a hospital in the surrounding area.
Investigations will need to be carried out in order to determine the cause of the crash.
