19 April 2012 – Three Killed in Horror Collision on N1
[PLATTEKLOOF] – Three people were killed late last night on the N1 towards Cape Town near the Plattekloof Bridge.
Paramedics from ER24 were in the nearby vicinity when they heard a loud smash coming from the direction of the highway. The paramedics decided to investigate by driving on the highway. Moments after they were patrolling the highway they came across a Toyota Corolla and a Citi Golf that collided with each other. Paramedics immediately called for extra resources to assist on the scene.
On further investigation paramedics found that a man was ejected from the Citi Golf. He was found laying several metres away from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene. Three occupants were found trapped in the vehicle. A woman trapped in the vehicle was in a critical condition and paramedics had to quickly extricate her in order to save her life. They initiated Advanced Life Support intervention in order to sustain her basic life functions. She sustained critical injuries. Two men were also found in the vehicle with fatal injuries. There was nothing more that paramedics could do for them and they were declared dead in the vehicle.
A bystander on the scene explained that the Citi Golf lost control after the collision and rolled several times ejecting one of its occupants. The vehicle allegedly rolled up an embankment before it landed next to the road.
It is believed that all of the occupants were in their late 20’s. No one was injured in the Toyota Corolla. The local police and traffic attended the incident and will conduct an investigation.
