PINETOWN 20 April 2012, 07:20

ER24 paramedics in Pinetown responded to two serious motor vehicle collisions, ten kilometers apart and within 15 minutes of one another this morning.

The first incident occurred on Broadway road when a passenger vehicle veered from the road and drove into a river. Fortunately all of the occupants involved in the incident sustained no injuries. Paramedics where still at the scene of the incident when they received word of a taxi accident a few kilometres away.

Paramedics later arrived at the scene of a taxi accident on Otto Volek road where a taxi had collided with a passenger vehicle at an intersection. The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but a minibus taxi collided with the side of the passenger vehicle.

Paramedics found a single male occupant believed to be aged in his 60’s in the passenger vehicle. Unfortunately the man had sustained various fatal injuries and was later declared dead at the scene.

The minibus taxi had 15 occupants including the driver. All of the occupants had sustained minor injuries in the form of various scrapes and bruises. The patients received treatment at the scene before being transported to various hospitals in the surrounding area by various ambulance services.

Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
