18 Injured In Taxi Accident On The M35

[ISIPINGO, KZN – 28 MAY 2012 AT 15H00]

Eighteen people have sustained various injuries after a collision on the M35 just past Isipingo, involving a taxi and a light motor vehicle this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics from Durban were the first to arrive on the scene and found the taxi just off to the side of the road with extensive damage to the driver’s side. The light motor vehicle was found in the road with extensive damage to the front of it.

The commuters of the taxi were found lying on the grass embankment near to the taxi. The community members had gathered around and tried to help the emergency personnel treat the patients. Eighteen people were assessed and found that only four had suspected neck and back injuries and were placed on specialised boards. They also needed Advanced Life Support intervention. The remaining fourteen patients were treated for minor to moderate injuries. All patients were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals in the greater Durban area for further medical care.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further. Traffic was severely affected due the accident and as only one lane was open to the motorists.
