2 Teenagers injured in Potchefstroom accident

POTCHEFSTROOM 4 May 2012, 08:40

Two teenagers sustained serious injuries this morning following an incident on the Viljoenskroon road approximately 20 kilometers outside of Potchefstroom.

The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage, but a single white VW Golf traveling in the direction of Potchefstroom had veered out of control before leaving the road. The vehicle then overturned multiple times ejecting the two teenagers from the vehicle.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the two occupants, one female and one male, a few meters away from the wrecked vehicle. Paramedics promptly dispatched a medical helicopter to the scene.

The male driver sustained a shoulder injury as well as suspected back and neck injuries. He was treated at the scene before being transported to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for further medical care.

The female occupant sustained suspected back, neck, chest, abdominal and head injuries. She received treatment at the scene before being airlifted to the Millpark hospital for further medical care.

Local law enforcement officials were at the scene and will be investigating the cause of the incident further.
