Bakkie rolls killing the driver

[Bloemfontein 07 May 2012 06:30]

The driver of a bakkie has been killed after rolling the vehicle on Fort Street in Bloemfontein. The man was allegedly passing through the tunnel under the railway line near Mannion Road when he suddenly lost control of the bakkie for some reason.

The bakkie then crashed into a light pole, which according to bystanders was such an impact that the light pole actually ripped the roof of the bakkie off. The vehicle continued up the road until it rolled and came to rest on its roof. The driver of the Toyota Hilux single cab was no longer protected in his seat as the roof was taken off and he was crushed beneath the weight of the bakkie.

ER24 Bloemfontein paramedics actually drove across the accident and they immediately assessed the man who appeared to be in his 30’s. Sadly, he had already died due to the extensive nature of his injuries and nothing more could be done to save his life. He was declared dead on scene a short while later.

There appeared to have been no other vehicles involved in the accident, and the driver was the only occupant at the time.

The local police will conduct all their necessary investigations into the cause of the crash.
