IMPERIAL I-Pledge gears up for Top Gear Festival in Durban
Durbanites are revving their engines to welcome the Top Gear Festival, powered by Shell V-Power from 16-17 June at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. And while Jeremy and the Boys get ready to burn rubber and perform the crazy stunts for which they are [in]famous, IMPERIAL I-Pledge, the event’s official corporate social investment partner, prepares to showcase road safety to festival visitors in a fun, interactive way.
“While Top Gear is all about the irreverent humour, pushing the boundaries and jaw-dropping stunts, IMPERIAL I-Pledge will be asking Top Gear fans to take the I-Pledge and leave the need for speed to the trained professionals,” says Tak Hiemstra, executive director of IMPERIAL.
Nearly 37,000 South Africans have taken the I-Pledge, committing to obey the rules of the road and adopt a more positive attitude towards others. It is hoped that the Top Gear Festival will double this figure. “We still have a lot of track to cover before we reach the chequered flag of Zero Harm on our roads,” adds Hiemstra.
The 2012 event offers a more interactive experience for the visitor, as the Moses Mabhida Stadium and its surrounding precinct and Peoples Park offers an exceptional, world-class venue with the necessary infrastructure required to host this impressive motoring festival. IMPERIAL I-Pledge will be there to raise awareness about road safety and encourage fans to join the movement for safer roads.
Pledge, pose and win
Festival visitors will be able to take the I-Pledge, have a photo taken with their loved ones in the interactive photo booth. They might even be lucky enough to win a Parrot Bluetooth car kit.
Busting the myths about drunk driving
Visitors can take part in a series of simple activities wearing Drunkbuster™ goggles, eye-wear that simulates drunkenness in varying degrees. People will be surprised how reduced their reaction time is after one alcoholic drink and will realise that drinking and driving is simply not worth it.
Increasing visibility
IMPERIAL I-Pledge will also be kitting out the Top Gear parking and security marshalls in reflective jackets.
