Driver And Passenger Injured On N3 Hammersdale

[HAMMERSDALE, KZN – 22 MAY 2012 AT 09H30]

A driver and passenger of a bakkie had a narrow escape after the bakkie they were travelling in slammed into the back of a stationary truck on the N3 north bound just after Hammersdale this morning.
ER24 paramedics from Hillcrest arrived on the scene and found a bakkie still wedged into the truck and with extensive damage to it. The driver was still inside the vehicle, while the passenger had removed himself from the bakkie and was found lying on the embankment. The driver was assessed and found that he had suspected chest injuries and suspected neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient before he was removed from the bakkie. The passenger was treated for suspected neck and back injuries. Both patients were transported to Hillcrest Private Hospital for further medical care.

The necessary authorities will be investigating the accident further.
