Fatal collision on the N12 at Fochville turn off

[Potchefstroom, NW 24 May 2012 07:30]

A man has been killed and another five people have been severely injured after a four vehicle accident on the N12 at the Fochville turn off in the direction of Johannesburg.

At this time the cause of the accident is not clear. Paramedics arrived to find vehicle parts strewn across the highway, and they immediately had to close the road for safety of other motorists.

Paramedics found a man lying in the road, allegedly having been flung from the Mercedes as it rolled. He sadly had already succumbed to his injuries prior to the arrival of the paramedics and he was declared deceased. There had been another five patients who had been severely injured. The ER24 Discovery Medciopter was immediately activated to the scene to airlift a critically injured man to Milpark Hospital.

The other four patients, two critically injured and two seriously injured, were treated on scene for their injuries before being taken by ambulance to the Mediclinic in Potchefstroom.

The driver and passenger in the Mercedes had miraculously not been injured and after thorough assessments by paramedics, decided that they did not want to go to hospital by ambulance, they would go at a later stage if need be.

Police will be conducting their necessary investigations into the cause of the fatal collision.
