Man dies in burning car

What appears to have been a partial head on collision between a bakkie and a Suzuki SUV has left the driver of the bakkie deceased after his vehicle burst into flames.

After the initial impact between the two cars on Tygervalley road in Contermanskloof, the bakkie further crashed into a tree after which it allegedly suddenly caught alight. Paramedics and rescuers arrived at the scene to find the vehicle well alight and the driver and only occupant of the vehicle still trapped inside. Despite efforts to extinguish the flames, there was nothing more that they could do to save the man’s life and he died in the vehicle.

The driver of the Suzuki was not injured in the accident, and although shocked as to what had just taken place was found walking around the scene.

The Western Cape DOH Emergency Medical Services team extinguished the blaze and removed the man’s remains from the vehicle.

The local police attended the scene for investigation purposes.
