Miracle escape as light pole cuts into car in Bloemfontein crash in Church Street

[Bloemfontein 27 May 2012 19:30]

A man and woman travelling in a sedan along Church Street in Bloemfontein have miraculously escaped serious injuries after the vehicle crashed into a light pole.

The vehicle was so badly damaged with the light pole having cut right through to the middle of the car, that paramedics were almost sure that the occupants would have been badly injured. Upon approach of the scene they found the man and woman, appearing to be in their 30’s, not having sustained any obvious injuries besides cuts and bruises.

What appears to have happened is that as they were travelling into town, the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle and it swerved and crashed into the pole. The force of the collision had the pole rip through the metal, somehow missing the woman sitting in the passenger seat and stopped in the middle of the vehicle.

Paramedics took the two occupants to hospital by ambulance for further assessment and for hospital staff to rule out any other possible injuries.

There had been no other vehicles involved in the accident.
