Motorcyclist airlifted off R44 Rooi-Els

One man sustained serious injuries this afternoon following an incident on Clarence drive, R44, near Rooi-Els.

The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage, but a male motorcyclist, aged 52, was driving on the road when he allegedly swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle. The man then fell off the bike before being driven over by the passenger vehicle.

Paramedics from the Western Cape Provincial Department of Health: Emergency Medical Services who arrived at the scene promptly dispatched the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to the scene.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene for suspected back and neck injuries  as well as a broken right arm and a broken right leg. The man was later airlifted to Groote Schuur Hospital for further medical care.

The occupants of the passenger vehicle sustained no injuries in the collision. local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
