Pedestrian dies on the Reitz/Kestell road

[Kestell 05 May 2012 18:30]

A woman and her child, travelling on the Reitz/Kestell road in their Toyota Conquest collided with a pedestrian this evening; the accident happened closer to Kestell.

According to bystanders, the road is very dark and the accident happened where there is a curve in the road. What appears to have happened, is that the pedestrian came out of the long grass and neither driver nor pedestrian saw each other in time to avoid the collision. The pedestrian was knocked on the drivers side of the car, leaving the windshield badly damaged and the roof of the car bent.

Paramedics arrived to find that the man had suffered traumatic and extensive injuries, and it appeared that more than one other vehicle may have also collided with him as he lay in the road. There was nothing more that could be done for him and he was declared dead.

The woman and child were taken to Mediclinic Hoogland in Bethlehem for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.

The police remained at the scene for investigation purposes and to determine what actually transpired to cause the fatal collision, as well as where the pedestrian had come from.
