Two die and four others injured in N1 Goodwood collision

Two people have died and four others sustained serious injuries following a single vehicle collision in the N1 highway in Goodwood.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but a Golf GTI had allegedly veered out of control before colliding with a road side street lamp. The collision was severe as the Golf had split into two upon colliding with the street lamp.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found that five of the six occupants had been ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Two of the occupants, one male and one female had sustained various fatal injuries. Both were later declared dead at the scene.

One man was entrapped in the vehicle as bent steel had pinned his leg. Local fire and rescue personnel used rescue equipment to cut the man free from the wreck. The man then received treatment at the scene for a broken left leg and hip as well as suspected back and neck injuries and various scrapes and bruises. He was later rapidly transported to Tygerberg hospital by another ambulance service.

The remaining three occupants received on-scene treatment for various scrapes and bruises as well as suspected back and neck injuries. All of the patients were transported from the scene to various medical facilities by various ambulance services.

Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
