Workers Injured After Bakkie Overturns On The N2

[DURBAN – 01 MAY 2012 AT 17H00]

Five workers have sustained minor to moderate injuries, while a sixth is in a serious condition after the bakkie they were travelling in carrying wood, lost control on the N2 north bound between Umgeni Road and Nandi Drive this afternoon. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the bakkie lying on its side with the wood lying all across the road.

The occupants from the bakkie were found lying on the edge of the road. They were assessed and found one person had a broken hand and suspected neck injuries, while the remaining five had minor to moderate cuts and abrasions.

They were stabilised on scene and transported to Addington Hospital in a stable condition for further medical care. It is believed that the bakkie may have had some sort of mechanical problem which caused the driver to lose control.

The local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
