Cow Killed In Collision On The N3

[HAMMERSDALE, KZN – 13 JUNE 2012 AT 19H10]

One person has sustained serious injuries and a cow has been killed after a collision involving two cars and a two bakkies on the N3 south bound opposite BP Oasis in Hammersdale this evening.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found two light motor vehicles, one bakkie and the cow in the right hand lane of the freeway. A fourth vehicle also a bakkie was across the road in the emergency lane. All four vehicles had sustained extensive damage to them.

The cow had already succumbed to its injuries. The driver of the light motor vehicle was examined and found that he had suspected neck and back injuries and minor cuts. A specialised board was used to stabilise the patient further and he was transported to Hillcrest Private Hospital for further medical care.

It is not uncommon for cattle to stray onto the road way in this area and due to reduced visibility; the vehicles were unable to avoid a collision.
