Four Killed in Carletonville Head-on

A head on collision on the R501 in Carletonville, west of Johannesburg, resulted in four people being killed and two others with critical injuries.

At approximately 18:15 this evening, paramedics from ER24 and local rescue services attended the collision where a BMW and a Nissan Almera collided with each other. Paramedics found all four of the occupants in the Nissan with fatal injuries. Two women, believed to be between the ages of 20 and 26 years, and two men, believed to be between the ages of 30 and 40 years, were declared dead on the scene.

All of the occupants were trapped inside of the Nissan and their bodies had to be freed with hydraulic rescue equipment by the local rescue services.

Two occupants in the BMW sustained critical injuries and were stabilized on the scene before being rushed off to a local hospital by the provincial emergency services.

The exact cause of this incident is not yet known and will be investigated by the local authorities.
