Head On Collision Leaves Eleven Injured On The R81

[POLOKWANE – 17 JUNE 2012 AT 12H00]

A collision on the R81 about 35km outside of Polokwane involving a Red Toyota Corolla and a Ford Telstar has left eleven people including two children with injuries this afternoon.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the two vehicles off to the side of the road with extensive damage to both vehicles. The occupants from both vehicles were found strewn across the veld. Four people including a child age between five and seven and a infant had sustained critical injuries. One adult had suspected neck and back injuries and suspected internal injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the man to help stabilise him. He was airlifted by AMS to Polokwane Provincial Hospital in a critical condition for rapid medical intervention.

Four other people sustained serious injuries and three other passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries. Patients were stabilised on scene and transported to Mankweng and Polokwane Provincial Hospitals for further medical care.

It is believed that the two vehicles had a head on collision and the impact made them to roll. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
