Head on collision Witkoppen and Rivonia

A taxi and a car have collided head on at the corners of Rivonia and Witkoppen in Paulshof. The cause of the accident is unclear, but both vehicles had been badly damaged as a result of the collision. The taxi lay on its side with the front of the vehicle crushed and ripped apart.

The man sitting in the front passenger seat was trapped by the crushed metal. The Fire Department would need to use the Jaws of Life to remove him from the wreck. The ER24 Discovery Medicopter was activated to the scene to collect the injured man in order to get him to hospital for further treatment as quickly as possible. He was airlifted to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for further care.

Six other people required treatment for moderate injuries that try had sustained as a result of the crash. They were treated by paramedics and transported to hospitals in the area by ambulance.
