Today (19 June) at around 6:45 a motorcyclist collided with a pedestrian crossing Dale Road in Midrand.
“Both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian sustained injuries,” reports Terence Teixeira from the Matrix Road Safety Association, who arrived at the scene. “The pedestrian sustained serious injuries to his head, right lower leg and left upper thigh and was treated and stabilised by Emer-G-Med paramedics.”
The Matrix Road Safety Association vehicle arrived on scene and the on-board medic assisted his fellow Emer-G-Med paramedics. Both patients were transported to the nearest hospital.
“The cause of the accident is still under investigation by authorities but we would like to urge motorists and pedestrians to be more cautious and aware on our roads. Pedestrians, stick to the side walks where possible and avoid crossing roads on blind corners or rises. Motorists, slow down when in an area with many pedestrians and always be cautious of pedestrians that may be climbing into or out of taxis or busses. Often the pedestrians cannot see oncoming vehicles clearly, so be extra cautious in these situations. Please always stop at pedestrian crossings,” he urges.
