Taxi accidents around Durban

[Durban, KZN 22 June 2012 07:30]

Two separate taxi accidents were attended to by our Durban crews this morning around the Durban area, leaving approximately 20 people with various injuries.

The first accident that was reported was at the corners of Umgeni  andf Ilala streets in Durban CBD where two taxis collided with one another. It seems that the two taxis were traveling in the same direction and one crashed into the back of the other, pushing the front taxi off the road and then head on into a tree.

Approximately 20 people traveling in the taxis needed to be treated for various injuries. One man who was a passenger in the rear taxi had suffered serious injuries while the remaining patients had suffered minor to moderate injuries. Paramedics from the area arrived on scene and started treating the injured, and all of the patients were taken to hospitals in the surrounding area by ambulance.

The second accident involved a taxi and a car that collided. They had been traveling on the M1 and crashed into one another at Marion Hill. The taxi was pushed from the road and landed on its roof down a short embankment. Despite the damage to the taxi, miraculously none of the commuters had sustained any injuries and they had managed to climb from the wreck. At this point it is not clear as to how many people were actually in the taxi at the time.
