Today (31 May 2012) at around 11:30 an 18-wheeler cargo truck collided with the barrier on the R24 eastbound after the Gilloolys intersection.
According to the truck driver, he was about to change lanes when he noticed another vehicle in the lane he had indicated to move into. He decided to remain in his current lane, when the driver of a passenger vehicle in front of him stopped abruptly. The truck driver was unable to stop in time and swerved to avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of him, crashing into the barrier and blocking three lanes of the highway.
The Matrix Road Safety Association vehicle arrived on scene and the onboard Emer-G-Med medic assessed the drivers for injury. No injuries were sustained, however the traffic in the area was severely congested and is expected to remain so until the removal of the truck.
