Truck driver flees collision scene on N3 South

Yesterday at around 13:40, the N3 south near the London Road offramp was the scene of yet another accident involving a truck, only this time the truck driver didn’t stick around to see what damage had been caused.

According to Terence Teixeira, from the Matrix Road Safety Association, the driver of a Hyundai Atos collided with the rear end of a cargo truck. The truck driver allegedly stopped for a moment and inspected the Hyundai Atos then climbed back into his vehicle and fled the scene.

The Matrix Road Safety Association vehicle arrived and the onboard Emer-G-Med medics treated and stabilised the driver of the Atos who sustained moderate injuries. Fortunately the passengers in the Atos, a mother and her baby, did not sustain any serious injury. The driver and passenger of the Atos were transported to a nearby hospital.

“Because drivers are travelling at high speeds on the highways, it is that much more important that a safe following distance is adhered to,” says Teixeira. “Failure to adhere to a three second following distance increases the risk considerably resulting in the driver often running out of space and/or time. This three second following distance is extremely important in a pre-pass situation, ensuring added forward visibility and space to increase speed before overtaking,” he adds.
