Fatal accident near Alberton

[Walkerville, GP 10:00 10 July 2012]

Shortly after 10am this morning a car and truck were traveling in opposite directions on the M61 in Walkerville near Alberton, when it appears that one of the vehicles veered out of their lane and the two vehicles collided head on.

Paramedics from the Vaal and JHB South branches responded out to the call for medical assistance, but upon their arrival, their initial assessments of the man trapped in the drivers seat of the Opel sedan revealed that he had already died due to extensive injury. There was nothing more that they could do for him and his remains were cut from the vehicle by local Fire and Rescue workers using the Jaws of Life. The man who appeared to be in his late 20’s or early 30’s was declared dead on scene.

Both vehicle were pushed from the road, and came to rest still mangled into one another at the side of the road direction Meyerton. The cause of the collision will need to be determined following investigations by local authorities.

The driver of the truck was assessed by paramedics and found to have fortunately not sustained any physical injuries as a result of the collision. The truck was transporting a load of bricks, heading in the direction of Alberton when the accident took place.
