Head On Collision in Kloof Leaves Both Drivers In Serious Condition


[KLOOF, KZN – 24 JULY 2012 AT 08H30]

Two people are in a serious condition after a collision between two motor vehicles on Bridle Road in Kloof this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the one vehicle still on the road, while the second vehicle was on a side road not too far from where the accident took place. Both vehicles had extensive damage to the front of them.

The driver of the white Jeep had a suspected neck and back injury with minor cuts to his face and arms. The patient needed Advanced Life Support intervention before he was taken out of the vehicle and stabilised on further. The driver of the Discovery 4 was mechanically entrapped and the Fire Department had to use rescue equipment to extricate her from the vehicle. The patient had a suspected broken arm and suspected neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support skills were used to stabilise the patient.

Both patients were transported to Hillcrest Private Hospital in a serious but stable condition for further medical care. The circumstances around the accident will be investigated by the local authorities. The road was closed while emergency personnel were busy on the scene.
