Horrific Accident Leaves Three Dead On N2 Accident

[DURBAN, KZN – 03 JULY 2012 AT 15H45]

A horrific accident on the N2 north bound near to the M19 off ramp involving eighteen cars and a truck has left three people dead and six other people with various injuries this afternoon.

ER24 and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the truck and two of the light motor vehicles off the N2 and on a construction road next to the freeway. Of the vehicles was found underneath the front of the truck while the second one was found at the back of the trailer. Three other vehicles were found on the N2 with extensive damage.

Paramedics started assessing the three people, one adult, a teenager and a child that where entrapped inside the vehicle that was underneath the cabin of the truck. They had suffered very traumatic and fatal injuries and had already succumbed to their injuries and were declared deceased on the scene.  The Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment were used by the local Fire Department to extricate the deceased from the vehicle.

The occupants from the other vehicles had sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.

It is believed that the truck may have had some sort of mechanical problem while coming down the N2 causing the driver to lose control and collide into the vehicles and dragging the one underneath as it went.

The necessary authorities are on the scene and will investigate the accident further.
