Truck and bakkie ripped apart in head on collision

Magagula Heights, GP 19:30 12 July 2012]

A truck and a single cab bakkie crashed into one another, head on, on the R550 in Magagula Heights near Palm Ridge in the east of Johannesburg, leaving four men with extensive injuries.

The truck was traveling in the direction of Nigel and the bakkie towards Alberton when for some reason the two crashed into one another as one of the drivers may have crossed into the oncoming lane. The force of the impact was so severe that the front axle of the truck was broken off. Both vehicles were ripped to pieces, with the crumpled remains strewn across the road.

Paramedics arrived to find that the three occupants of the bakkie had been ejected from the cabin during the impact. All of the men, appearing to be aged in their late 30’s, had been badly injured and were in need of rapid life saving treatment. The Advanced Life Support paramedics took over their vital functions and they were then taken to Natalspruit hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the truck was treated for multiple broken bones and after his injuries were stabilised on scene, he was taken in a stable condition to Mulbarton hospital by ambulance.
