A single vehicle accident on the Rivonia off ramp to the N1 in the direction of Sunninghill involving a taxi has left fifteen people injured this evening.

ER24 and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the taxi had smashed into a concrete barrier. There were some commuters in and out of the taxi and emergency personnel started to assess and treat patients. Two commuters were in a critical condition. They had suspected head injuries and suspected chest injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patients to help stabilise them further.

Thirteen other patients including the driver were treated for suspected neck and back injuries and were placed on specialised boards. All patients were transported to various hospitals for further medical care.

It is believed that the driver lost control while taking the corner and collided with the concrete barrier. The local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.

Traffic was not affected in the area due to the accident.
