Head on collision in Emmarentia leaves four injured

[Emmarentia, GP 09:30 01 August 2012]

A head on collision between a Toyota Yaris sedan and Nissan Lavina multi purpose vehicle on Barry Hertzog near the intersection with Judith in Emmarentia, has left four people with various injuries.

It appears that one of the vehicles may have crossed over into the oncoming lane as they were traveling through the bends, which lead to the head on collision taking place. Both vehicles ended up in the lanes in the direction of Roodepoort, and both vehicles had been badly damaged in the front.

Fire and Rescue workers needed to extricate the driver and only occupant of the Yaris from his seat using the Jaws of Life. Although he was conscious, his injuries were severe and the Advanced Life Support paramedic took over his treatment. He was taken through to Milpark hospital for further care.

A woman and her two children had been driving in the Lavina at the time, and they too were treated for moderate injuries before being transported to hospital by ambulance.

Local police authorities who attended the scene will determine who was at fault in the cause of the collision.
