Two injured in N1 Bellville pileup

[BELLVILLE, WC, 24 August 2012, 14:45]

Two people sustained moderate injuries this afternoon following a three vehicle pileup on the N1 highway near the Jip De Jager off ramp in Bellville.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but it seems as if a black BMW had collided into the rear of a Fiat UNO. A toyota Corolla then collided into the rear of the BMW. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found a total of two people in need of medical attention.

The female passenger in the BMW received treatment for suspected back and neck injuries as well as various scrapes and bruises. The driver of the toyota sustained a suspected broken leg as well as suspected back and neck injuries. All of the patients received treatment at the scene before being transported to nearby medical facilities.

Traffic on the N1 highway was affected as the right and middle lane was closed for traffic while emergency personnel attended the scene. Local law enforcement officials attended the incident and will be investigating the cause of the collision further.
