A driver of an SUV has lost his life and a truck driver has sustained minor injuries after the two vehicles collided on the N3 Pietermaritzburg bound between Shongweni and Peacevale this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics from Hillcrest arrived on the scene and found the two vehicles in the middle lane with extensive damage to the SUV. The driver of the SUV was still entrapped but had unfortunately already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased in scene. The Jaws of Life was used to extricate the the deceased from the vehicle.
The driver of the truck was assessed and found he had minor injuries and was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for further medical care.
Traffic in the area was severely affected due to the accident. The local law enforcement authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
