Delivery vehicle rolls on the N12 in the direction of Klerksdorp

[Potchefstroom, NW 11 September 2012 16:00]

A delivery vehicle has rolled while travelling on the N12 in the direction of Klerksdorp, approximately 15 kilometers outside of Potchefstroom.

The vehicle was badly damaged, where the vehicle had rolled a number of times. The delivery vehicle came to rest on its wheels at the side of the road, and its contents of bread and consumables strewn around the area.

The passenger had managed to climb from his seat and was found walking around the scene, but the driver, due to the crushed metal of the vehicle surrounding him, was trapped in his seat. Paramedics could reach the man through a small opening in the windshield and started treating him for his critical injuries while the Fire Department crews cut the vehicle open using the Jaws of Life.

The 26 year old appeared to have sustained a severe head injury, as well as possible spinal injuries and multiple deep facial cuts. The Advanced Life Support paramedic placed him onto external breathing equipment and once removed from the vehicle they took him to Mediclinic Potchefstroom by ambulance.
