Driver Killed As Car Rips Into Two at intersection in Durban

[DURBAN, KZN – 23 SEPTEMBER 2012 AT 00H05]

A driver believed to be in his late twenties has been killed after losing control of his light motor vehicle at the intersection of NMR Avenu and Walter Gilbert and crashing into a pole which tore the car in half in the early parts of this morning.

ER24 and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the vehicle in two pieces and a few meters apart from one another. The driver was still inside the vehicle and unresponsive. Emergency personnel extricated the man from the vehicle and assessed him and found he was not breathing. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed along with CPR. After a long battle trying to save the patient’s life, the patient was declared deceased due to the very critical injuries he had sustained in the accident.

It is believed that the driver lost control while on NMR Avenue and was heading into Durban and collided with the Camera Pole on the island. The impact was so severe that the car ripped into two.

The local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further. The road was closed to traffic while the investigation took place.
