Elderly couple injured in Potch accident

[Potchefstroom, GP 06 September 2012 08:00]

A taxi collided into the passenger side of a VW Golf this morning, shortly before 8am at the corners of Albert Luthuli and Pieter Mokaba streets in Potchefstroom.

An elderly couple were actually on their way to Mediclinic Potchefstroom, as the woman was supposedly going for a medical consult. The passenger side of the Golf was badly damaged and paramedics and rescuers arrived on scene and immediately made the decision to use hydraulic equipment to cut the vehicle open. The 66 year old woman was treated for suspected internal injuries and a suspected head injury while the Jaws of Life were used to free her. Once removed she was transported along with her husband, a 75 year old man with moderate injuries, to Mediclinic Potchefstroom.

The driver of the taxi, who was alone in the vehicle at the time, suffered no physical injuries and he was not transported to hospital.
