Five injured in side impact collision

[Vanderbijlpark, GP 05 September 2012 08:00]

A side impact collision has taken place on Delfos Boulevard between Hertz Boulevard and Mc Colm Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark, leaving a woman in her 60’s with critical injuries, and four men with minor injuries.

It is not clear as to how the collision took place, or as to who was at fault in the cause, but both vehicles were badly damaged. The Toyota Aygo was badly damaged on the left passenger side, while the Toyota Corolla had been badly damaged in the front.

The woman who was traveling in the Aygo at the time was the only occupant, and paramedics found her still seated in the driver’s seat, having sustained critical head and chest injuries. The impact had also bent the driver’s side door preventing paramedics from simply removing their injured patient, and the Fire and Rescue Department cut the roof of the vehicle off. The Advanced Life Support paramedic in the mean time took over the woman’s vital function, placing her on assisted breathing equipment. The critically injured woman was then taken by ambulance to Mediclinic Emfuleni for further care.

The four men, aged between 25 and 25, who had been traveling in the Corolla had climbed out of the car themselves and they were found seated on the pavement. They had sustained minor injuries in the form of minor scrapes and abrasions and they were taken to Sebokeng hospital by ambulance.
