Motorcyclist injured in Pietermaritzburg collision

A male motorcyclist sustained serious injuries this morning following a collision with a passenger vehicle at the corners of Durban and Blackburrow road in Pietermaritzburg.

The events leading up to the collision is unclear at this stage, but the motorcyclist, believed to be aged 48, was on his way to work at the time of the collision. The motorbike collided with the vehicle in the intersection and caused the bike to collide with a roadside curb, catapulting the rider into a robot.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man in severe pain. Paramedics treated the man for suspected back, neck and chest injuries before rapidly transporting him to a nearby medical facility for further treatment.

The two occupants in the passenger vehicle at the time of the collision sustained no injuries in the incident. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the collision.
