Two people are in a serious condition and seven other people have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a truck, a taxi and three light motor vehicles have been involved in a collision on the N3 Pietermaritzburg bound between the Umlaas Road and Lynnfield Park this afternoon.

Six commuters were found seated in the taxi and one person from the light motor vehicle had sustained minor to moderate injuries. The Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment to help extricate the two front passengers. Advanced Life Support intervention was being performed on the patients to help stabilise them due to the injuries they had sustained in the accident. Once freed, they were placed on specialised boards and stabilised further. The seven other patients were treated for cuts and abrasions and suspected neck and back injuries.
