Two accidents in the Vaal around 7pm

[Vaal, GP 31 August 2012 19:00]

Two serious accidents have taken place in the Vaal within minutes of one another, leaving one man dead and another three patients injured.

A man in his 40’s was flung off his motorbike while traveling on Langrand street in Vereeniging. The motorcyclist allegedly crashed into the back of a truck which left him with extensive injuries. The paramedics found him lying in the road and he was in a critical state having suffered multiple and severe injuries including broken bones and internal injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he later died despite all efforts by hospital staff to save his life.

The truck was no longer on scene when paramedics arrived, and the police will investigate all of the relevant details pertaining to the cause of the accident.

The second accident took place shortly after 7pm on Frikkie Meyer Boulevard close to the intersection of Conradie in Vanderbijlpark. A young couple were driving in an Opel Corsa when they saw what appeared to be a large box in the road. The patients explained to the treating paramedics that they actually turned around to try and quickly remove the box from the middle of the road for fear of someone else hitting it and getting injured. The driver stopped the vehicle and went to the front of the car to move the obstruction.

As he was standing in front of the car, another vehicle collided with the Corsa from behind. The man was then knocked down by his own vehicle which had been bumped forward. Luckily the impact was not too severe and he had suffered what appeared to be broken ribs and other moderate injuries. He managed to walk back to get into his car, awaiting the arrival of paramedics and comforting his five week pregnant wife whose arm had been broken as a result of the impact as she was still seated in the car. Both of them were taken to a nearby hospital for further care under the Advanced Life Supports care.

The driver of the other vehicle had suffered moderate injuries and he too was taken to hospital for further assessment.
